my coming to this work

as a small child through my thirties, i lived six years overseas and traveled extensively.  during this time i embraced and studied cultures and their art forms.  i also trained to be an elementary school teacher and taught for four years.

after breathing the air of maine, i settled to raise three children who have been my teachers of life, adding bounty and balance to my experiences.  through the long illness and death of my middle child, my life lessons revealed and expanded my human existence, thus challenging me to find deep joy within the deep sorrow both for myself and for those around me.

over time i have developed a variety of art expressions. i started with collage work. now i create with watercolors, which focus on nature, movement, and color.  the feelings range from magical/whimsical to spiritual/reverent in relationship to the human condition. landscapes have also entered my subject matter.  i create hand painted watercolor cards with my inspirational writings from life's experiences. i also create lampshades.  you will find my work at my studio in southwest harbor, as well as many stores and galleries in maine.  i also offer individualized classes.
